This year…
My hat was my
costume!
I had the idea and
made a sketch several weeks ago and have been working it out. I
finished it last night, just in time.
It is a hat with a
plastic bird skeleton. There is a company called Crazy Bonez that has
all kinds of fantastic plastic skeletons. I have begun a small (yet
growing) collection that includes frogs, rat, vulture, bat, hands,
etc. I love them for art projects!
I found a wonderful
pumpkin light that is battery operated and has a prism that rotates.
It gives the bird a look of being on fire.
I used a pre-made
witch hat and added cheese cloth dyed black. I wanted to use a hat
with a narrower brim as in my drawing but the light wouldn’t fit in
and be wearable. The actual assembly was a little tricky and I won’t
bore you with details. But it worked out just the way I had in mind.
I wore it to work (a
retail store) and everyone loved it. It was a lot of fun and I was
pleased that it held together and was fairly comfortable. I changed my name tag to "Bird Woman" and when a delivery guy needed my signature...
Happy
Hallowe’en everyone!
