Show and Tell: End of the Day
I did this painting
using a reference photo I took during a studio drawing session. The model
graciously allowed us to take photographs and I was quite happy with
a few. I think Degas would have liked them.
The painting is 16”
x 20” on gallery wrapped canvas. It is oil with an acrylic
background and colour wash and has been sealed with a special varnish
made for both mediums.
The original is
listed for sale in my Etsy shop and prints can be ordered from
FineArtAmerica.
At the same time, I
also began a second painting, all in oil, of the same image. It
remains unfinished at present and is on my New Year's Resolution
list.
Kathryn, you know I love so much of your art, but (with the possible exception of the 'compassion' piece) this is my absolute favourite! I am a fan of ballet and of Degas (yes, he would have liked this!), and this is simply beautiful! Adding a print of this to my birthday list!
ReplyDeleteThank you Donna! I am honoured!
DeleteDefinitely yes, Degas would be pleased. My first thought on seeing your work, was that he was your inspiration for this piece. How lovely that you had a live model who inspired you and let you take photos to refer back to. This piece is a departure for you from the recent works I have seen and I love seeing this side of your art and your interest in humanity and how it occurs to you, Kathryn.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley! Yes my styles are a bit eclectic. This painting was done a few years ago. I like to look at people and present a 'snapshot' of life. Probably why I am not into landscapes much. I leave them for those who are good at it.
DeleteWhat I love about this piece is that the model is not super thin. She is full figured with grace and charm. Beautiful work of art. I'm sure ballet enthusiasts will admire. I do.
ReplyDeleteYes! She was trim and fit, but healthy (and young 17 or 18) Very nice and an excellent model.
DeleteSuch a beautiful painting - I love it. I love ballet too so this is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie!
DeleteYou have captured the beauty of the image within your painting and the addition of the colors is masterful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Shonda for the nice words!
DeleteWonderful piece, Kathryn! I love what you were able to do starting with a photo. Amazing work!
ReplyDeleteThank you Delia!
