Vintage Woman

I am a vintage photograph... a sepia toned image now softened and worn around the edges.

I have withstood the tests of sunlight, dampness, and time.

I join others in a family album for future generations to remember how I looked... and what I was like.

I will show my smile and joy of life along with my scars that bear witness to trial and strength.

I am a vintage valentine that has faded and lost its trim.

I am a card that once professed love and undying devotion.

I offered my heart to those who deserved it and many who did not.

Mistakes were made and my heart was sometimes posted to the wrong one but occasionally landed true.

Along the way I have gathered dear friendships that will last beyond life and I will be forever in the hands of those I love and they who descend.

I am a vintage doll who is a little worn and a bit cracked.

She has been played with and left on the shelf.

The joints are stiff and the surface uneven.

Her eyes have weakened... yet through them she has seen world events that range the Kennedy assassination, the moon landing, the end of the Berlin Wall, and the 911 destruction of the NY WTC.

She witnessed the eruptions of Mt. St. Helens and will never forget what a powerful force the earth can be.

I am an old teddy bear, plastic tea set, bicycle with training wheels, chocolate Easter bunny, and tie-dyed shirt.

I am my past. I am everything that I have done, seen, and remembered.

I am not old...

I am a vintage woman!

  1. That's a glorious way of looking at it, and I *love* this line "Along the way I have gathered dear friendships that will last beyond life and I will be forever in the hands of those I love and they who descend." - I feel that's where I'm at :)

    1. Thanks Lizzi! I am waiting to see if any of my friends say anything about the "..bit cracked" part. A fun double meaning there!
